Rider profile:

When did you start riding Motorcycles?
I started riding in high school, 1st on scooters, then on the back of a friend’s Triumph. I chose my boyfriends by if they had a motorcycle or not. I remember my dream of riding my own motorcycle across the country that I told my best friends in the 6th grade that I would one day do so.

How did you get into doing distance riding?
In 1981 I took my first long trip on a 400cc Honda spending 2wig traveling through Maine with friends. Then in 89’ I moved to Norcrose, GA and spent the summer traveling with my youngest son as my passenger through 36 states in a month and a half. That had me totally hooked! Later, riding alone, I found I had the stamina to ride long distances and I started challenging myself with miles and days.

What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment, Lets see... I would say raising my youngest son. He has grown up to make me very proud in spite of the mistakes I hade made as a parent. Today he enjoys motorcycling as much as I do.

What do you hope to get out of riding, what does it give to you?
Guess it goes back to the old saying: “If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand.” When it comes to explaining why you ride and what you get out of it or it gives to you, I could say the things people always say; “It’s the freedom and so on…” I choose to go a bit deeper; it has become a part of my life. I truly EAT, SLEEP, DREAM, WORK, and RIDE motorcycles. It isn’t so much what I can get out of motorcycling, but what I can put back into it.

What would you tell other riders who wish to "go the distance"?
After attempting to and then finally finishing the Iron Butt Rally in 2003, my advice to those who want to do distance riding is: start out small with simple attainable goals, have a dependable motorcycle and be persistent!

Ventura Profile:

When did you start using Ventura Motorcycle Accessories?
I first saw Ventura products when a friend and co-worker had a Ventura system on his bike. He rides the same motorcycle I have and because I had limited carrying capacity on my bike I asked where he had bought his system. I then located the company through the internet and I contacted them.

What made you choose Ventura Products?
I really liked the versatile uses the system offered. The large bag rack for bigger loads, the smaller rack for lesser loads and grab handle for a finished look when racks aren’t needed. It also gives a passenger a little extra stability.

How has Ventura products helped you along the way?
The Ventura rack and luggage system was perfect for use on the Iron Butt Rally. It also allowed for an extra fuel which enabled me to have less stops along the way. In addition, I used a Ventura head lamp protector which, even after riding over 20,000 miles and tons of rock chips, left my headlamp intact.

Is there anything you would like to add?
The one product I wish they would come up with would be some sort of had grip protector to cut or break wind and cold from your hands.

Finally, the people at Ventura are wonderful and just to let you know, Ventura is not just another company, they are THE COMPANY.
